After school, a child may be physically home but not yet settled. Moving from the noise and rules of the classroom into family life often needs a short landing period, especially before homework and many questions begin.
Use three landing stations
First: water or a small snack. Second: ten minutes of movement or free play. Third: one question that does not demand a report, such as “What used the most energy today?” Only then agree on a homework start time.
Do not turn rest into an open delay
Clear timing protects rest from becoming a tug-of-war. Use a visible timer or one steady sentence: “When the twenty minutes ends, we will look at what is needed and start with the smallest part.”
Today’s next step
Try a landing routine on only two school days this week, then ask your child which station helped most.
