Not every conversation with a teenager needs advice or a result. Begin in ordinary moments—walking, driving, or making something at home. Ask a question that does not demand a report: “What felt different about your day?” Then listen before offering a solution.
Boundaries about safety, respect and time can stay clear, but the way they are discussed matters. Try “We want to understand and protect” instead of “You always…” When you do not know the answer, say so honestly and agree to look into it together.
