Ages 9–12: a twenty-minute family meeting

A short weekly plan that turns family agreements into experiments you can review.

Set a short, regular time and resist turning it into a complaint session. Open with three sentences: something that worked this week, something that felt hard, and one idea for next week. Everyone gets equal time, including adults.

Choose one decision to try—where school bags go, or a quiet time before bed. Put it somewhere visible. At the next meeting, ask, “What helped? What needs to become smaller?”nnGolden rule: do not use the meeting to announce punishments or compare siblings. Its purpose is to make agreements visible and adjustable.
