Connection and language

Ages 0–2: ten minutes of connection before the task list

A short guide to turning one repeatable daily moment into connection and shared language.

You do not need a complicated activity at this age. Choose ten repeatable minutes each day. Sit close, follow what your child notices, name what they touch or see, then wait for a look, movement or sound in return. Ordinary routines can become shared language.

Resist filling every silence. If your child points at a cup, you might say “blue cup,” then pause. There is no test to pass; the point is that their attention matters and communication feels safe.

Try today: choose one reliable moment—after a bath or before sleep—and repeat a short book, song, or conversation around three pictures.
